Kansas Wesleyan Women's Soccer picked up a 2-1 win over the Bethel College Threshers on Wednesday evening at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
The victory improved the Coyotes' record to 8-6-1 overall and 6-4 in the KCAC heading into Saturday's key Kansas Conference match-up with Friends in Wichita.
It was also the 22nd consecutive victory in the all-time series for KWU over Bethel, a streak dating back to the 2002 season. KWU is 23-8 all-time against the Threshers.
Bethel tried to get on the board early, but a phenomenal save by
Allison Blumenthal in the third minute kept the Threshers off the board.
Wesleyan's first good look at a goal resulted in a tally for the Coyotes.
Yissel Navarro scored it in the 18th minute putting the Coyotes up 1-0.
The Coyotes nearly had another in the 32nd when
Paige Proper's shot hit the crossbar and Proper had another chance on the ensuing corner but was saved.
Wesleyan was awarded a penalty for a hand-ball in the box, but
Graciela Lopez could not convert, but the try sparked a bevy of opportunities for the Coyotes that finally yielded a goal in the 86th minute when
Grace Conner scored it off an assist from
Valeria Lara.
Bethel's goal came in the final minute on a corner set piece by Ashley SaJous.
KWU outshot Bethel 18-8 in the match led by three from Navarro. Blumenthal had seven saves in goal for the Coyotes.
