Women's Basketball opens 2023-24 campaign this weekend at Bellevue Chick-Fil-A Classic

The Kansas Wesleyan Women's Basketball team opens its 2023-24 season on Friday and Saturday as the Coyotes are in Bellevue, Neb. for the Chick-Fil-A Classic hosted by Bellevue University.

THE SERIES 
  • KWU is 1-1 against Bellevue. The Coyotes lost to the Bruins 77-54 in October of 2020 in Mabee Arena; they defeated Bellevue 69-61 in November of 2019 in Bellevue.
  • Saturday's game will be first between Wesleyan and Dickinson State.

  • The Coyotes were 19-10, 17-5 in the Kansas Conference. They were 19-5 over their last 24 games after starting the season 0-5.
  • They lost to Ottawa 74-70 in the quarterfinals of the KCAC Tournament in Mabee Arena.

  • The Bruins are coached by Dave Denly, who is in his eighth season. Denly was women's coach at Southwestern for 17 seasons and won 348 games before going to Bellevue. He is the winningest coach in Moundbuilders' history. 
  • Bellevue was 17-12, 10-4 in the North Star conference during 2022-23.
  • The Bruins lost to Mayville State 76-59 in the semifinals of the North Star conference tournament.

  • The Blue Hawks were 13-17, 7-7 in North Star conference play last season.
  • They lost to Dakota State 82-37 in the semifinals of the North Star tournament.
