Coyotes return to the hardwood this week heading to McPherson Wednesday, hosting Swedes Saturday

Kansas Wesleyan Women's Basketball returns to the court after an 11 day break for Thanksgiving as the Coyotes head to McPherson on Wednesday, then host rival Bethany on Saturday inside Mabee Arena.

THE SERIES 
  • The Coyotes have won four in a row and nine of 10 against McPherson. They defeated the Bulldogs 95-84 last year in McPherson in their only matchup of the season. Wesleyan has a 33-6 series lead since February, 2006.
  • Bethany won both games last season 74-64 November 16 in Mabee Arena and 62-56 January 18 in Lindsborg.

KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
  • The Coyotes defeated Evangel 78-66 in overtime November 18 in their last game before the Thanksgiving break. KWU pulled away in the extra period by scoring 10 of the first 11 points. LaMyah Ricks had 26 points, Jill Stephens 14 and Angel Lee 13 for the Coyotes.  
  • Ricks leads the team in scoring (12.5) and also averages 3.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists. Stephens averages 10.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and is shooting 34 percent from 3-point range. Lee averages 9.0 points.
  • The Coyotes average 70 points and are shooting 39 percent overall, 26.4 percent from beyond the arc. Opponents average 72.5 points and are shooting 43.8 percent, 34.6 percent from the 3-point line.
 

McPHERSON AT A GLANCE
  • The Bulldogs defeated Waldorf 65-59 in a non-conference road game Saturday after losing their first two KCAC contests to Bethel (82-58) and Friends (79-48) the week before Thanksgiving. Their other victories are over Barclay (75-41), Manhattan Christian (100-24) and Central Christian (78-58).
  • Freshman guard Chloe Clevenger leads the team in scoring (10.3) followed by sophomore forward Gillian Rodgers (10.1). Rodgers also averages a team-best 5.9 rebounds.
  • McPherson scores 67.3 points and allows 58.6. The Bulldogs are shooting 35.8 percent and opponents 48.8 percent.

BETHANY AT A GLANCE
  • The Swedes opened the season with four non-conference losses but found their stride against conference opponents, defeating Oklahoma Wesleyan 62-42 and Bethel 73-63 before the Thanksgiving break.
  • R'Manie Pulling averages a team-best 9.9 points followed by Kisa Unruh (8.5) and Lauren Gleason and Jaden Newfarmer (8.3 each). The Swedes average 66.8 points, allow 68 and are shooting 40 percent as a team. Opponents have a 2.3 per game rebounding advantage.
  • Bethany is led by first-year head coach Sarah Bartel. She was Keith Ferguson's assistant for two seasons and was promoted during the offseason after Ferguson accepted a job at Northeastern State (Okla.).
