Several Men’s Tennis players earn medals at KCAC Flighted Championships

LINDSBORG – Several Kansas Wesleyan Men's Tennis players earned medals at the 2023 KCAC Individual Flighted Tennis Tournament on Saturday.
 
The tournament was intended to begin Friday, but rain in the area pushed the start of the tournament back to Saturday, and the back (consolation) draw was eliminated from the tournament.
 
In the No. 1 singles flight, Bryce Ware was the champion of the flight. He started with an 8-0 win over Martin-Dardaine of Oklahoma Wesleyan in the quarterfinal, then beat Milan Bucek of Bethel College 8-2 in the semifinal. In the final, Ware faced Michael Beltran of McPherson, winning 9-8 on a tiebreaker which he won 7-3.
 
At No. 2 singles, Alex Sherer advanced to the finals, but was forced to retire in the championship match against Michael Cech from Bethel, receiving second place. Sherer opened with an 8-0 win over Fitzsimmons of Friends, then beat Hauska of Southwestern 8-5 in the quarterfinal, then beat Jhoel Quinonez 8-5 in the semifinal.
 
At No. 3 singles, Raul Davalos-Gavino earned fourth place. He opened with an 8-5 win over Evangel's Gabriel Leal in the quarterfinal, but lost to Marcus Nardy of McPherson 8-0 in the semifinal. In the third place match, he faced Petr Kollar from Bethel, 9-8, in a 7-4 tiebreak.
 
At No. 4 singles, Adam Hanson lost to Arthur Nardy 8-1 in the quarterfinal round.
 
At No. 5 singles, Luke Craft beat Tomas Villamil of Evangel 8-4 in the quarterfinal, then lost to Daniel Marcano in the semifinal 8-3. Craft would bounce back, taking third place with an 8-4 win over Preston Callahan from Oklahoma Wesleyan.
 
At No. 6 singles, Jack Hanson beat Jarrett Teel from Evangel 8-4 in the quarterfinal, then lost to Texas Ranger Schmidt of McPherson 8-3 in the semifinal. Hanson would earn third place in the flight with an 8-3 win over Adam Spencer of Oklahoma Wesleyan.
 
In doubles, at No. 1, Ware and Sherer would earn second place. They opened with a quarterfinal win 6-0 over Maritz and Eutsey of Saint Mary, then beat Cech and Kollar of Bethel 7-6 on a 7-5 tiebreak in the semifinals. The duo would fall to Michael Beltran and Martin Millos of McPherson 8-3 in the final.
 
At No. 2 doubles, Adam Hanson and Davalos-Gavino would lose to Quinonez and Almog Cohen of Ottawa 6-2 in the quarterfinals.
 
At No. 3 doubles, Collin Phelps and Paulo Catani Martini beat Preston Callahan and Spencer from Oklahoma Wesleyan 6-1, then lost to Tomas Quercia and Rodrigo Sanchez of Bethel 6-3 in the semifinal before beating Bernardno and Luis Figueiredo 6-3 in the third place match to earn third place in the flight.
 
The Coyotes will close out the fall portion of the schedule this weekend, hosting the ITA NAIA Central Regional in Salina starting on Friday.
