Women's Basketball starts three-game road trip this week at Bethel Wednesday, Friends Saturday

Kansas Wesleyan plays two Kansas Conference games on the road this week starting with a Bethel then Friends this weekend.

THE SERIES  
  • The Coyotes have won three straight and 12 of 14 against Bethel. They won 84-63 in Mabee Arena and 70-62 in North Newton last season. KWU has a whopping 31-5 advantage since December, 2005. 
  • KWU and Friends are 3-3 in their last six games but the Coyotes won the previous six. The Falcons prevailed 84-61 on November 15 in Mabee Arena in the first game this season and leads the series 21-18 since February, 2006. 

KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE 
  • The Coyotes split two games last week defeating Sterling 99-94 in double overtime in Sterling and losing to Oklahoma Wesleyan 68-61 Saturday in Mabee Arena. They're sixth in the KCAC standings one game against of Bethel and Ottawa. 
  • Freshman point guard Odessa Ozuna was named the KCAC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. She scored 26 against Sterling, making five 3-pointers, and had 21, including three more 3s, against Oklahoma Wesleyan. She made her first career start against Sterling and came off the bench against OKWU. Ozuna was 14 of 30 shooting, 8 of 14 from 3-point range, 11 of 12 at the free throw line in the two games and has raised her scoring average to 8.2. 
  • Jill Stephens is the team's leading scorer (11.9) followed by LaMyah Ricks (11.4), Angel Lee (8.7) and Ozuna. KWU is shooting 38 percent overall and 30 percent from long range. Stephens is the top rebounds (4.9). 

BETHEL AT A GLANCE 
  • The Threshers lost both of their games last week – 66-51 to Evangel Wednesday in Springfield, Mo. and 77-67 to Friends on Saturday in Wichita. Bethel has rebounded after losing its first five games of the season. 
  • Freshman Kendall Locke is the leading scorer (14.2) and has surpassed 20 points in four of her last five games including 22 against Evangel and 21 against Friends. She also averages a team-high 5.1 rebounds. Junior Natalie Richards averages 11.7 points and freshman Madyson McKinzie 11.5. 
  • Bethel averages 69 points and allows 76.6. Rebounding and turnovers have been issues: opponents average nearly eight rebounds a game more (7.7) than the Threshers and they are averaging 17.3 turnovers.  

FRIENDS AT A GLANCE 
  • The Falcons entered the week having won five in a row. They defeated Oklahoma Wesleyan 78-50 last Wednesday in Bartlesville and downed Bethel 77-67 Saturday in Wichita. Friends was one game behind conference co-leaders Saint Mary and Tabor in the KCAC standings. 
  • Rayland Garner scored 24 points and Taylor Jackson had 19 and 12 rebounds in the Falcons' victory over KWU on November 15 in Mabee Arena. The game was tied at 54 after three quarters before Friends pulled away the final 10 minutes. 
  • Garner averages a team-best 17.6 points and grabs 7.3 rebounds per game. Jackson, the Falcons' post player, averages 13.8 points and 11.4 rebounds, which leads the KCAC and ranks sixth in the NAIA.
