THE SERIES
- The Coyotes lost to Evangel 81-80 November 18 inside Mabee Arena. It was the first meeting between the two schools.
- KWU has won four in a row, five of the last six and six of the last eight against McPherson including a 76-69 victory November 29 in McPherson. The Coyotes have a 21-17 advantage since January, 2006.
KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
- The Coyotes notched two thrilling conference road victories last week. They rallied to defeat Bethel 72-69 last Wednesday in North Newton then toppled Friends 86-76 in overtime Saturday in Wichita. KWU trailed Bethel 58-43 with 10½ minutes left but came storming back. Thurbil Bile had 20 points and 12 rebounds, Jun Murdock 15 points and Alex Littlejohn 12 points and nine rebounds. The Coyotes scored nine unanswered points in overtime against Friends. Littlejohn had a dazzling game finishing with a triple-double – 18 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists – while Murdock had 19 points and six assists and Bile 15 points.
- KWU trailed Evangel by 69-52 with 10 minutes left in their game earlier this season. The Coyotes battled back and took the lead with just over a minute left but could not hang on. Littlejohn had 19 points and 16 rebounds while Izaiah Hale scored 16 and Caden Hale 15.
- Murdock scored 20, Izaiah Hale 16, Caden Hale 15 and Littlejohn had 12 points and 14 rebounds in the first game against McPherson. KWU trailed 40-38 at halftime and was down seven with 17:27 left but took control with a 21-6 run.
- The Coyotes average 81 points and are shooting 46 percent, 33.7 percent from deep. Murdock is the top scorer at 18.0 points and averages 4.6 assists. Littlejohn averages 16.9 points and 11.6 rebounds which leads the KCAC and ranks fifth in the NAIA. Bile's scoring average has climbed to 10.2 while Izaiah Hale averages 10.1.
EVANGEL AT A GLANCE
- The Valor have won two in a row and three of four. The success comes after losing four in a row. They defeated Friends 88-75 last Wednesday in Springfield and downed Tabor 86-75 Saturday in Hillsboro.
- The Valor average 81.6 points and are shooting the ball well – 48.2 percent overall and 35 percent from beyond the 3-point arc where they average 7.2 makes per game.
- Senior guard Josh Prickett averages a team-high 14.8 points and sophomore guard Garrett Davault 12.3 points. Prickett scored 17 against KWU earlier this season and had 18 against Friends and 18 against Tabor. Davault scored 17 against Tabor while senior guard Josh Mason had 35 points (17 and 18) in the two games last week.
McPHERSON AT A GLANCE
- The Bulldogs ended a two-game losing streak with a 79-59 victory over York on Monday in McPherson. Jamil Hardaway led the way with 22 points and nine rebounds. McPherson lost to Oklahoma Wesleyan 62-52 last Wednesday in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and to Bethel 64-58 Saturday in North Newton.
- Curtis Rose scored 22 and Hardaway had 15 against KWU in the first game this season. Collin Storr, a junior forward, leads the Bulldogs in scoring (15.3) and rebounding (9.9). Rose averages 11.6 points and Owen Braxmeyer 10.8 points and 6.5 rebounds.
- The Bulldogs are second in the KCAC in offensive rebounding at 12.9 per game and are outrebounding their opponents by five per game. McPherson scores 75 points per game and allows 69.5.
