Developmental Women's Volleyball Weekly Recap - October 15

The Coyote Developmental Women's Volleyball Gold team went 2-0 after playing Bethany College and Avila University. The Purple team went 1-1 facing Baker University and Hesston College.

Key players for Kansas Wesleyan in the match-up against Bethany on Monday October, 8 were Maddy Wolf a Freshman Outside with a 0.400 hitting percentage with 10 total attempts, 1 error, and 5 kills. Freshman middle blockers were a huge impact for the Coyotes. Avery Conner had a 0.375 hitting percentage, 3 total blocks and Ashleigh Graves with a 0.444 Hitting percentage, 3 total blocks. KWU won over Bethany in a sweep 25-13, 25-17, 25-12.

"It is so fun to watch this team be very dominant on the court to the point our offense can be successful no matter who is given the ball. Having both of our middles so involved so much and being successful when doing so is a testament to how well Blair Pennington is running this offense, as well as Avery and Ashleigh and how hard-working they are throughout the whole match." - Coach Skylar Lane

The Gold team then traveled to Avila University on Friday October, 11. The Coyotes recorded another sweep 25-15, 25-12. Malia Smith, a freshman libero averaged 5 digs a set was a huge contributor to the KWU win. Freshman outsides Ryan Pennington had a 0.357 hitting percentage on 14 total attempts and 6 kills and Aidyn Lagergren had a 0.500 hitting percentage were the key players on Friday.

"This week was good with gaining two wins! I think we do a great job at adjusting and learning how to play cohesively as a team. We always have fun and enjoy playing together." - Freshman Avery Conner

The Purple team face Baker University at home on Tuesday October 8. The Coyotes lost to a talented group of Wildcats (25-14, 25-13). Junior libero Abigail Palmer averaged 4 digs a set and Freshman Outside Shelby Davidson had a hitting percentage of 0.381 with 11 kills.

"Baker's JV had tons of size, athleticism, and physicality, but that didn't prevent our players from playing their own game. Even though the result was a loss we played a good game for our expectations. Our first contacts were great, and that's what we work on and pride ourselves in. So as a coach, I can't be disappointed."  - Viet Nguyen

The Coyotes then traveled to Hesston, KS to face Hesston College. KWU won (25-19, 17-25, 25-13, 25-20). Key players in the Coyote win were Shelby Davidson 0.514 hitting percentage on 37 attempts with 23 kills, and Kalie Villagomez averaged 5.25 digs per set.

"I think during the Hesston game everyone was having fun and we did well." - Olivia Donadio, Freshman setter.

The Gold team faces Oklahoma Wesleyan in Mabee on Friday October, 18 at 4:00 PM. The Purple team will travel to Hutchinson on Monday October, 21 to face Friends University at 7:00 PM
