LEAVENWORTH – Kansas Wesleyan scored three goals and then held off a run by the Saint Mary Spires as KWU came away with a 3-2 win on Saturday at Berkel Stadium.
Wesleyan's first goal came in the 11th minute as
Cayden Andersen scored on a loose ball in the box to put the Coyotes up 1-0.
KWU added a second just moments before half time, as
Gerardo Garcia headed one home off a corner kick set piece by
Daniel Micheletti to make it 2-0 in the 43rd minute.
KWU carried the 2-0 lead into the half.
Seth Flores added a 60th minute goal for the Coyotes to put KWU up 3-0.
Saint Mary tried to make a comeback, scoring in the 63rd and 66th minutes, but could not find another goal.
KWU outshot Saint Mary 16-7 in the match, led by four by Garcia and three by
Noel Zimbeva.
The Coyotes get a week off, returning to action next Saturday taking on Avila University at 4:30 p.m. at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
