Coyotes open KCAC play Saturday on the road at Ottawa

The Coyotes open Kansas Conference play Saturday against Ottawa. Tipoff is 3 p.m. inside Wilson Field House in Ottawa.

THE SERIES 
  • The Coyotes and Braves split last season but KWU has won five of the last seven games. Ottawa won 84-74 last December in Ottawa before the Coyotes prevailed 73-62 in February inside Mabee Arena. Wesleyan has a 29-14 lead in the series since 2006.

KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
  • The Coyotes routed Kansas Christian 98-27 Wednesday night inside Mabee Arena. Five scored in double figures led by Hampton Williams and Jocelyn Hall with 13 apiece. Kelsey Koza and Jada Renner each had 11 and Jill Stephens 10. KWU has also defeated Northern New Mexico in Mabee Arena and Oklahoma City on the road. Their losses are at home to Jamestown and to Morningside is Sioux City, Iowa.
  • LaMyah Ricks leads the team in scoring (11.5 points) followed by Stephens (10.4) and Odessa Ozuna (8.0). Paige Chauncey is the leading rebounder (5.4).
  • Stephens surpassed the 1,000-point overall collegiate scoring plateau Saturday during the Coyotes' game against Morningside. She's shooting 38.2 percent (11 of 29) from beyond the 3-point arc.

OTTAWA AT A GLANCE
  • The Braves defeated Haskell Indian Nations 85-71 Monday in Lawrence for their second consecutive victory. They opened the season with a victory over Barclay in Ottawa, lost to Stephens and Columbia in Columbia, Missouri, and defeated Baker last Friday in Ottawa.
  • Three players have double figure scoring averages – Kennedy Bankett (15.0), Dominique Schutte (11.2) and Abby Sextro (10.2). Sextro is the top rebounder (8.4) and Schutte is shooting 41.7 percent from deep (15 of 36).
  • Ottawa is coached by Hunter Bondurant who is in his second season. He was the Braves' assistant coach during the 2022-23 season and was an assistant with the men's program during 2021-22.
