LaMyah Ricks scored 15 points to lead the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes, but her effort wasn't enough as University of Jamestown knocked off KWU 67-51 on Saturday at Mabee Arena.
Ricks was the lone double-digit scorer for the Coyotes, who struggled shooting going 18-of-47 from the field for 38.3 percent.
It was a slow start that was Wesleyan's undoing, trailing 26-10 after a quarter, but the game was even between the teams the rest of the way.
The Coyotes did a good job of holding Jamestown star Kate Cordes in check, turning her into a high volume shooter as she was 7 of 19 from the field and just 1 of 7 from 3-point range after torching Bethel for 32 points on Friday night.
Wesleyan trailed by as many as 18 points in the first quarter at 26-8 with 1:22 left, but
Catherine Bowman's free throws with 44 seconds left made it a 16 point difference in the quarter.
Jamestown shot over 60 percent from the field in the first quarter while the Coyotes were just 3 of 10 for 30 percent.
Every time the Coyotes tried to make a push, Jamestown had an answer.
A 3-pointer by
Jill Stephens got the Coyotes within 11 at 54-43 with 5:42 left in the game but the Jimmies' 11-4 run pushed the difference back out to 18 with 1:03 left.
Sophomore
Odessa Ozuna added nine points for the Coyotes.
Paige Chauncey had five rebounds.
The Coyotes are on the road for the next two games, heading to Oklahoma City University on Wednesday, then to Morningside on Saturday. The Coyotes return home on November 13 hosting Kansas Christian.
