Women's Volleyball drops match to Southwestern

Kansas Wesleyan University Women's Volleyball continued KCAC play on Saturday morning facing the Southwestern College Moundbuilders inside Mabee Arena.

Both teams saw lopsided wins in the three sets and the Coyotes would eventually fall as the Builders clinched the fourth and fifth set to secure their first conference win of the season with the scores of (25-14, 12-25, 25-11, 24-26, 19-21)

In the first set the Coyotes came out fast, puttiing together an early 5 point run together to build at lead to 9-4 after a couple kills from Gianna Adriaanse and Kate Bebout. Coyotes would continue to stretch the lead, only allowing an occasional Southwestern point. KWU found its largest lead of the first set after a kill by Kyla Moore delivered a kill set by Josie Deckinger to put the Coyotes ahead 20-9. The Coyotes would go on to win the first set 25-14.

The Builders did not flinch despite the crushing first set. The script would flipped for set two and as the Coyotes struggled to keep the ball off the court and set up aggressive kill looks. Southwestern took an early 5-1 lead. The Builders kept adding to their lead and KWU only found a point here and there. The Builders would go on to claim the second set at 25-12 and tie the match at 1-1.

The third set looked as if the first set was playing all over again. The Coyotes shook back from the sloppy second set. The Coyotes put together a early 6-3 lead and kept it arms length as they continued to stack points. The Coyotes found a 21-9 lead after a handful of some big kills by Rylee Surpan. KWU would go on to win the third set 25-11 and take the lead at 2-1.

All of the madness that went down in the first three sets were just setting up a wild fourth set. The teams would trade run for run as KWU put together a four point run to find the 13-10 lead. The Builders responded quickly and put a five point run to get the lead at 15-16. KWU found the late lead and had set point with a 24-20 look. But the Builders went perfect for six straight points and clinched the fourth set 26-24 and tie the game at 2-2.

The Coyotes and Builders continued to trade runs in the fifth set in a battle to the very end in a match with no lead larger than two points. KWU had a match point try at 14-12, and again KWU found a late lead at 15-14. SC responded and took back the lead at 15-16. KWU would tie it at 16-16. This battle would go on and on all the way to the 19th point until SC put three scores together and clinched their first conference win as the Coyotes fell in the fifth set 21-19..

Kansas Wesleyan will drop to 16-11 overall and 6-5 in conference play.
