Kansas Wesleyan Women's Soccer saw its run in the KCAC Tournament come to an end on Wednesday night as the Coyotes fell to the No. 7 seed York University Panthers at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
 
The loss means an end to Wesleyan's streak of KCAC Semifinal appearances at 19, a streak that dated back to the 2005 season. KWU had appeared in every KCAC Tournament semifinal from 2005 to 2023.
 
The teams spent the first few minutes of the opening half settling into a groove and feeling out the opponent and how they would play in the match.
 
York had the first shot of the match in the eighth minute by Zippora Nigg, and Wesleyan's first shot came by Leslie Serrato in the 14th minute that was saved by York keeper Harumi Cornejo.
 
The Panthers got the lone goal of the match in the 28th minute. Lorna Campos sent a corner into the box from the right side and found the head of Rieke Wolff who knocked it in for the goal.
 
Wesleyan had a good look at a goal on a shot by Carstyn Anderson from just outside the box on the left side, but hit the crossbar with the shot. On the ensuing corner kick Rylie Moreno-Rojas had a shot but it was saved.
 
The Coyotes went on the offensive in the second half, but could not find the goal. A deep shot by Valeria Lara just grazed the post in the 51st minute.
 
Lara sent in a couple more shots from deep but they were saved or were off target.
 
There were three times in the second half that it appeared a KWU player was fouled within the penalty area, but all were not called.
 
York was called for a foul just outside the box in the 71st minute, but Carstyn Anderson's direct kick was high.
 
The Coyotes had another good look at a goal in the 80th minute, but the shot from Precious Nwosu was saved.
 
KWU had two more late chances on shots by Lara and Rylie Moreno-Rojas, but were both saved. A late York foul in the final minute yielded one last chance for the Coyotes, but the indirect kick into a group of players was cleared by York as the clock ran out.
 
York did not try a shot in the second half, instead relying on their defense to hold for the win. KWU outshot the Panthers 12-5 in the match, putting eight shots on frame, led by four from Lara and three by Carstyn Anderson.
 
The Coyotes now await the result of the KCAC Tournament to see if they will receive the conference's second automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships. If Oklahoma Wesleyan, the regular season champion, also wins the tournament, then KWU will be the second bid.
