Shooting woes doom Coyotes against Tabor

HILLSBORO – It was just one of those nights for the Kansas Wesleyan Women's Basketball team on Wednesday night against Tabor.

The ball just wouldn't go through the net for the Coyotes as KWU shot a season low 22.2 percent from the field in an 86-38 loss to the Bluejays inside Tabor College's gym.

The good news is that Evangel and Bethany also both lost on Wednesday night, keeping the Coyotes in a tie for fourth place and in the driver's seat to be the fourth seed in the KCAC tournament.

KWU plays host to York on Saturday, Evangel hosts Oklahoma Wesleyan, and Bethany hosts Southwestern.

The Coyotes led 2-0 out of the gates, but Tabor controlled things after that, taking a 10-2 lead. The Coyotes battled back with six straight points, but Tabor would take a 21-10 lead into the second quarter after holding KWU without a point for the final four minutes of the period.

The second quarter was a struggle for the Coyotes as they trailed 47-13 at the break after shooting 17.6 percent in the first half.

Things got a little bit better in the second half for the Coyotes who bettered their entire first half output by three points in the third quarter alone.

Angel Lee led the Coyotes with 11 points, while Jill Stephens had nine and Odessa Ozuna had five. Stephens led the Coyotes with four rebounds.

Wesleyan wraps up the regular season on Saturday, hosting York at 5 p.m. at Mabee Arena. The KCAC quarterfinals are next Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the higher seed home site.
