BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Kansas Wesleyan Softball was swept by the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles on Saturday. OKWU won the first 6-5 and the second 5-3.
KWU started the first game taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Eliza Flores walked and
Sydnee Fordham singled to start a string of four straight hits for the Coyotes including a
Trenity Miller double and singles by
Hailey Summers and
Jocelyn Alcala.
The Coyotes added a run in the third as
Anne Thibert scored on a throwing error on a stolen base attempt by
Viviana Alaniz.
OKWU did all its damage in the bottom of the fourth scoring six runs to take a 6-4 lead.
KWU got a run back in the fifth as Miller singled and pinch runner
Becca Kennon scored on a double by Summers.
Fordham and Summers had three hits each to lead the Coyote offense.
Miranda Fogal took the loss in the circle allowing six earned runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.
Oklahoma Wesleyan jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start the second game before the Coyotes got on the board on a homer by Flores.
After OKWU got a run in the bottom of the third, the Coyotes tied in on Fordham's 2-run single that scored
Krista Yackeyonny and Alcala.
The Eagles scored twice in the sixth to take a 5-3 lead and held off a rally by the Coyotes in the top of the seventh for the win.
Flores and Fordham had two hits each for the Coyotes.
Jewell Henry took the loss in the circle allowing five runs, four earned, on 10 hits.
KWU returns home for the first time since February 26 on Wednesday, hosting the Friends University Falcons at 2 p.m. at Salina South HS.
