Kansas Wesleyan Baseball wrapped up its regular season on Saturday routing the Avila University Eagles 16-3 in seven innings at Dean Evans Stadium.
It was the last game for the Coyotes this season at Dean Evans Stadium after the series was moved from Kansas City to Salina due to weather and field concerns.
KWU finishes the regular season with a 41-8 overall record and a school record 32 KCAC wins against four losses. It's the first time in school history KWU has had back-to-back 40-win seasons.
After hitting 13 homeruns in Friday's doubleheader, the Coyotes hit seven more on Saturday to vault into the NAIA lead in homers with 122 on the season. KWU also leads the country in extra base hits with 263.
The Coyotes got the hit parade started in the first inning as
Jacob Williamson was hit by a pitch on the very first pitch of the game and then came in to score on
Jarrett Gable's homer.
Cruz Oxford joined to party making it back-to-back jacks for the Coyotes as KWU took a 3-0 lead after a half inning.
Wesleyan chose to rest its pitching staff for the game, using six different pitchers, each throwing a set number of innings. Starter Zach Westbook started things off striking out the side in his only inning of work.
Adrian Villalobos led off the second with a double and
Alex Garcia walked followed by Williamson's 2-run double to make it 5-0 Coyotes after two innings.
KWU added a run in the third as NAIA walks leader
Tyler Favretto added another free pass to his total, and
Reece Bishop also walked setting up Zach Beatty's wall-scraping single that scored courtesy runner
Jalen Jones, but Bishop would be thrown out in a run-down between third and home, and Beatty ended up at third on the play.
In the fourth, the Coyotes led off the inning with three consecutive homers. Williamson, Foster and Gable all launched a ball out of the stadium, and Oxford nearly made it four-in-a-row hitting the bottom of the wall in right center as the Coyotes extended the lead to 9-0.
Avila's Bryce Culp broke up the perfect game the Coyote pitching staff had going on in the fourth win a single.
Wesleyan added another run in the fifth as Garcia led off with a single, then stole second base but was thrown out at third trying to advance when the ball got away from the Avila catcher. Moments later Williamson crushed his second homer of the game to make it 10-0.
It was 10-0 until the bottom of the sixth when pinch-hitter Robby Cable homered to lead off the inning to make it 10-1.
In the top of the seventh, the Coyotes scored six runs. Garcia and Williamson led off the inning with singles and then scored on Foster's 3-run homer. Gable then walked, pinch hitter
Jalen Jones singled and two batters later pinch hitter
Brandon Zwiener singled and drove in a run. Pinch hitter
Kacen Shreffler was hit by a pitch to load the bases and a wild pitch would score a run. Another run scored on a passed ball.
Avila got two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but could not push anymore across as KWU closed out the 16-3 win.
Williamson was a perfect 4-for-4 in the game with 4 RBI and scored four times. Oxford had three hits, and Foster, Gable and Garcia all had two. Foster drove in three runs and Gable drove in three.
Westbook got the win, striking out the side in the first.
Thalen Wright worked two hitless innings with three strikeouts,
Danny Ramirez worked an inning allowing a hit.
Riley Gwin pitched an inning with a walk and a strikeout,
KT Gearlds pitched the sixth, allowing a run on a hit and struck out two and
Cesar Rodriguez closed it out in the seventh allowing two runs on two hits and struck out two.
