Kansas Wesleyan Softball made quick work of the Southwestern College Moundbuilders in a doubleheader sweep on Sunday at Salina South High School.
Â
Wesleyan won the first game 9-0 in five innings in an hour, and needed just 53 minutes to dispatch the Moundbuilders in the second game 8-0.
Â
The Coyotes wasted no time in getting things going in the first inning of the opener.
Hailey Summers led off with a single,
Sydnee Fordham reached on a fielder's choice,
Trenity Miller walked and
Jocelyn Alcala started the run scoring part with a single through the middle to score Fordham.
Ollievia Lowe followed with a single to load the bases, and another run scored on a wild pitch. Two more runs would score in the inning when
Josie Buhr reached on an error.
Â
Alcala reached on a fielder's choice in the third and then scored on Lowe's triple to right field. Buhr followed with an RBI single to put the Coyotes up 6-0.
Â
Southwestern managed its only hit of the game in the top of the fourth when Taylor Powers reached on a slow dribbler between first base and pitcher, but then tried to go to second on the play after the throw to first was mishandled, but Powers was easily thrown out at second base.
Â
The Coyotes added three more in the fourth as Fordham doubled and then scored when
Eliza Flores reached on an error. Alcala drove in two more with a double to make it 9-0.
Â
Fordham, Alcala and Lowe had two hits each for the Coyotes, while Alcala drove in three runs.
Caitlyn Collier tossed a 1-hitter for the Coyotes with three walks and six strikeouts.
Â
The Coyotes scored a run in the first, two in the second and three in the third and then twice in the bottom of the fifth to walk it off on the run-rule in the second game.
Â
Flores drove in the first inning run with a double that scored Fordham, who reached on a fielder's choice.
Â
Fordham drove in both second-inning runs for the Coyotes after Summers walked to load the bases for the Coyotes.
Â
An error in the third by Southwestern allowed the Coyotes to keep the line moving as Lowe singled in a run, Buhr drove one in with a ground out and
Grace Pierce drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Â
Wesleyan ended it in the fifth on a 2-out rally. Pierce doubled and
Jenna Soule followed with an RBI double, and then
Anne Thibert singled through the right side to score Soule from second for the walk-off hit.
Â
Seven different players had a hit for the Coyotes led by two by Pierce. Fordham drove in two runs, six others drove in a run each.
Â
Jewell Henry tossed a 3-hit shutout for the Coyotes with three strikeouts, only throwing 47 pitches in the victory.
