Baseball’s comeback against McPherson comes up just short in 11-9 loss

GREAT BEND – Kansas Wesleyan's late inning rally came up just short for the Coyotes as KWU fell to the McPherson College Bulldogs 11-9 on Friday night in the second round of the KCAC Tournament at the Great Bend Sports Complex.
 
The loss drops the Coyotes into an elimination game on Saturday at 12:15 p.m. against Evangel University, who the Coyotes defeated in Thursday's first-round game.
 
Playing as the first team to bat, the Coyotes got things started with a triple by Jacob Williamson and Wiliamson scored when Kendall Foster reached on an error. Foster then scored when Tyler Favretto singled to make ir 2-0.
 
McPherson grabbed a 3-2 lead scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning and extended their lead to 4-2 in the second.
 
The Coyotes came back in the third, opening the inning with a homer by Foster and Jarrett Gable reached on a single and went to second on a wild pitch. Favretto later singled home another run and the go-ahead run came in on a balk.
 
The Bulldogs came back and scored three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 7-5 lead and added three more in the fifth to take a 10-5 lead. The Bulldogs made it an 11-5 game in the sixth.
 
Wesleyan got things going in the top of the eighth as Williamson and Foster walked to start the inning and then both scored when McPherson committed three errors on one play. Reece Bishop added a RBI double to make it 11-8.
 
The Coyotes weren't done there, going for a 2-out rally in the ninth. Williamson homered to left and Foster walked, but the came to a close when Gable hit into a fielder's choice.
 
Gable had three hits, while Williamson, Favretto and Zack Beatty had two hits each.
