A goal by McPherson with 13 seconds left sent the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes and McPherson College Bulldogs to a 2-2 tie on Wednesday night at JRI Hospitality Stadium.
It was a sour ending to a match dominated offensively by the Coyotes, who outshot McPherson 17-6 in the match.
McPherson's goal came after a KWU foul in the final minute of the match
The Bulldogs had a free kick from about 35 yards that initially deflected off a KWU player, then bounced to a McPherson player who tried to make a play on it. The ball was deflected by KWU keeper
Santiago Pagnutti but found McPherson's Lorenzo Orlandi who headed it to Joao Rocha who had gotten behind KWU's last defender when the ball was headed to him and flicked it into the goal with on a header shot.
All four combined goals came in the final 25 minutes of the match.
KWU scored first, the first goal on a penalty after a McPherson foul in the penalty area that was converted by
Kamille Kum in the 67
th minute.
Wesleyan's second goal was in the 77
th minute when
Seth Flores scored, hitting one off the far post and in after a nifty bit of footwork by Eddie Flores deep into the box got him enough space to find Flores for the shot.
McPherson got on the board in the 79
th minute with a penalty kick goal by Nathan Van Wyck.
Cayden Andersen led the Coyotes with four shots while
Mateo Hoyos, Flores and Kum had two each.
The Coyotes are back in action on Saturday, hosting Ottawa University at 1:30 p.m. at JRI Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
