OTTAWA, Kan. – Kansas Wesleyan Men's Soccer suffered its first KCAC defeat of the season as the Coyotes fell to Ottawa University 3-2 on Saturday night at AdventHealth Field.
The match was a meeting between two teams that had yet to lose in KCAC play.
Wesleyan fell to 7-2-3 overall and 4-1-2 in the KCAC. Ottawa moved to 7-1-5 overall and 6-0-2 in the conference.
The Coyotes got on the board first in the 22
nd minute as
Seth Flores scored.
Ottawa responded in the 33
rd minute with a goal by Antonio Natalucci to even things out.
The 1-1 score would carry over to the half.
The Braves had the next two goals, the first on an Own Goal by the Coyotes when a KWU defender made a bad clearance on the back line that allowed the ball to score. Ottawa's third goal came in the 74
th minute as Martin Basso scored off a pass from Felipe Paderma.
Just 25 seconds later the Coyotes had an answer.
Mateo Hoyos got free and was able to score it to get the Coyotes within a goal at 3-2.
Wesleyan had a couple more chances to score but could not put one home.
Ottawa outshot KWU 14-12 in the match. Four players had two shots each for the Coyotes.
Shae Wirt had five saves in goal.
The Coyotes return to action on Wednesday, hosting the Sterling College Warriors at 7:30 p.m. at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
