OTTAWA, Kan. – Ottawa scored a goal with 10 seconds left in the match to force a 2-2 draw with the Kansas Wesleyan Women's Soccer team on Saturday at AdventHealth Field.
It was the first draw of the conference season for the Coyotes, moving KWU's record to 7-3-2 overall and 5-1-1 in the KCAC. Ottawa moved its record to 3-6-3, 2-4-2 in the conference.
The match-tying goal came after an Ottawa corner that was a low line drive kick from the right side. Several players made contact with the ball, as KWU tried to clear it over the end line to run out the clock but the clearance hit the cross bar and fell to Peyton Hack who scored it.
The Coyotes had a 2-0 lead at the half thanks to a sixth minute goal by
Talia Walsh off an assist by
Rylie Moreno-Rojas. Moreno-Rojas had the ball on the right side and dribbled down the pitch and sent a crossing ball to Walsh just outside the 6-yard box on left side and she poked it home with a right foot touch for the goal.
Wesleyan's second goal came in the 37
th minute. After a foul by Ottawa,
Lexi Jack lined up a direct kick from about 37 yards out along the left sideline and sent the ball in and it bounced past the Ottawa keeper and just inside the right post for the score.
Ottawa got on the board in the 69
th minute. The Braves' Lily Martin intercepted a KWU pass and sent the ball back down the middle towards goal right to Riley Smith who shot and scored from 20 yards out.
Wesleyan took twice as many shots as Ottawa, 18-9 in the match, led by six from
Emma Gervy.
Isabella Galvan had two saves.
The Coyotes return to action on Wednesday, hosting the Sterling College Warriors at 5 p.m. at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
