Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | David Toelle

Women’s Soccer falls 2-0 to No. 7 ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan

The top two teams in the KCAC Women's Soccer standings faced off on Saturday at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex. The seventh-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles would come away with a 2-0 win over the Kansas Wesleyan Coyotes in the highly competitive match.

OKWU scored both its goals on set pieces, one in each half.

The Eagles started out firing shots towards the KWU goal in the first five minutes but all were stopped by KWU keeper Isabella Galvan.

OKWU's first goal came in the 21st minute after a KWU foul. Oklahoma Wesleyan's Laura Gieseler took the direct kick from just outside of the penalty area inside the "D" and slid it around the KWU defensive wall and in.

OKWU's second goal came in the 61st minute following another foul by the Coyotes giving the Eagles another set. Tessa Edwards sent the ball into the goal area and found the head of Kylie Reif who knocked it in.

The Coyotes had their best scoring chance in the 87th minute as Lexi Jack shot one in from long distance that was saved by OKWU and Abigail Jensen's follow shot was saved as well.

Shots were 10-6 in favor of OKWU. Jack had two to lead the Coyotes. Isabella Galvan had five saves.

KWU is back in action next week. The Coyotes head to Bethany on Wednesday, then to Southwestern on Saturday.
