Coyotes host Braves on Saturday to open Kansas Conference play

THE SERIES 
The Coyotes lost twice to the Braves last season after winning the previous six. Ottawa won 73-65 in overtime in Ottawa and won 84-82 in Mabee Arena. The Braves lead the series 26-19 since 2006.
 

KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
  • The Coyotes have won two in a row after losing their first three games. They defeated Hesston 93-73 in their second game of the Bethel College Classic last week then upset MidAmerica Nazarene 77-76 Monday night in Mabee Arena.
  • KWU outscored Hesston 51-24 the second half and were led by Gabe Phillips' 26 points and eight rebounds. Freshman point guard Brandon Avedon had 16 points and nine assists. Against MNU Caiden Punt scored 30, Phillips had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Wyatt Powell 11 points in his debut after missing the first four games with an injury. The Coyotes shot 52 percent from the field.
  • Punt, a transfer from Central Oklahoma, is averaging 20.4 points and 8.5 rebounds. Phillips averages 12 points and 6 rebounds, Avedon 12 points, 5.6 assists and 4.8 rebounds and Matthew Garber 10.8 points. Powell is a transfer from Missouri Western and Garber from Cloud County.

OTTAWA AT A GLANCE
  • The Braves won their first three games but have lost the last two – William Woods 84-68 and Dordt 112-85, both in Ottawa. They defeated Hesston 80-60 in Hesston in the season opener.
  • As usual, scoring has not been a problem as the Braves average 83.6 points but they're allowing 83.6 points as well. Turnovers have been an issue – 15.4 per game.
  • Rich Martelly averages a team-best 16.4 points followed by Landyn Tyler, Cameron Lawson and Micah Willis at 12.4 each. Willis is the top 3-point shooter, 11 of 24 (45.8 percent) on the season.
