Garber drops in 19 points leading Coyotes to 71-65 win over Sterling

STERLING, Kan. – Matthew Garber scored 19 points to lead four Coyotes in double figures as Kansas Wesleyan Men's Basketball picked up a key Kansas Conference win over the Sterling College Warriors on Wednesday night at the Gleason Center.
 
The Coyotes jumped out to an early 14-6 lead with 16:39 to go after five straight points by Garber.
 
Wesleyan kept the Warriors at arm's length eventually pushing the lead out to double digits for the first time with 7:12 left in the first half on a bucket by Evens Appolon.
 
A bucket by Caiden Punt extended the lead to 12, but Sterling made a run to close the half, closing the gap to six points at the break at 31-25.
 
Sterling got within one point at 43-42 with 13:50 left in the game but the Coyotes got things going again with a 9-0 run that made it 52-42 with 11:21 left on a bucket by Brandon Avedon.
 
The Warriors again got close, getting within three at 57-54 with 6:07 left, but the Coyotes would push back out to a 62-54 lead with 4:54 to go on a steal and score by Wyatt Powell.
 
KWU never let the Warriors closer than five the rest of the game.
 
Caiden Punt added 14 and Avedon and Appolon had 12 each for the Coyotes. Punt added 10 rebounds and Avedon handed out eight assists.
 
The Coyotes are back in action on Saturday, hosting No. 21 ranked Friends at 5 p.m. inside Mabee Arena.
