Women's Basketball wraps first semester KCAC slate this week at York on Wednesday, hosting Saint Mary Saturday

The Coyotes are on the road and at home this week in their final two Kansas Conference games before the Christmas break.

THE SERIES 
  • KWU takes a 10-game winning streak into the game against York. The Coyotes also have won 13 of the last 14 and 18 of the previous 20. Last season they downed the Panthers 93-65 in Salina and eked out an 84-80 victory in York. Wesleyan leads the series 20-4 since 2005.
  • The Coyotes won two of three against Saint Mary last season. They're 2-3 in the last five games but had won eight in a row before that. Last year, KWU won 66-54 in Leavenworth, lost 75-70 in Salina then won 80-77 in the quarterfinals of the KCAC Tournament in Mabee Arena. Wesleyan has a 27-12 lead in the series since 2005.

  • The Coyotes suffered a heartbreaking 64-62 loss to Friends on Saturday in Mabee Arena. Down 54-48 early in the third quarter they went on an 11-1 run and led 59-55 with 4:17 remaining. Two Emma Gerken free throws tied it 62-62 with 1:04 left, but Friends got the game winning basket from Abigail Barr with 2.7 seconds left.
  • Freshman guard Anna Jueneman was superb off the bench finishing with a career-high 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals. She was 7 of 8 from the field and 3 of 4 at the free throw line. Izzy McCool added nine points and Jocelyn Hall eight.
  • McCool leads the team in scoring at 11.7 per game. Odessa Ozuna averages 11.5 points, 5.6 assists and 5.5 rebounds, and Paige Chauncey 8.6 points and 4.4 rebounds. Ozuna scored 13 in KWU's victory over Saint Mary in last year's KCAC quarterfinal contest.

YORK AT A GLANCE
  • The Panthers have lost their last five games after starting the season 3-2. They suffered a 76-46 setback against Tabor on Saturday in Hillsboro after trailing 32-23 at halftime. York is 3-4 in the Freeman Center this season.
  • Senior Destiny Shepherd is the top scorer (14.7) and has made a team-high 15 3-pointers. Senior Olivia Adams averages 7.4 points and a team-high 6.4 rebounds. Shepherd and Adams each scored nine in the loss to Tabor. Shepherd scored 25 in the Panthers' loss to Bethany last Wednesday.
  • York averages 64 points and allows 67. The Panthers shoot 36 percent overall, 26 percent from 3-point range, and commit 22 turnovers per game but likewise are forcing 22.

SAINT MARY AT A GLANCE
  • The Spires snapped a two-game skid with a 90-61 victory at McPherson on Saturday. The victory came three days after a 104-77 loss to KCAC co-leader Evangel last Wednesday in Leavenworth.
  • Three players have double-figure scoring averages – Addison Tower 15.2 and Keely Barnard and Abby Wendt 10.4 each. Tower does most of her damage from beyond the 3-point arc where she shoots 40 percent (35 of 88). Barnard also shoots 40 percent from deep and has made 19 3-pointers.
  • The Spires average 77 points and shoot 41 percent overall, 36 percent from long range. Opponents average 71 points but shoot just 27 percent from 3-point land and 39 percent overall.

UP NEXT
The Coyotes head to Florida next week for two games in the Daytona Beach Classic. They play Central Methodist at 10 a.m. Central time on Wednesday and Rochester Christian at 10 a.m. Central time on Thursday.
