THE SERIESÂ
- KWU's four-game winning streak against Bethel ended on January 8 when the Threshers won 69-61 in Mabee Arena. The Coyotes, though, have dominated the series since 2005 with a 32-6 advantage.
- KWU has dominated Southwestern of late having won the last 12 games. This will be the only regular season game between the two teams this season. Last season the Coyotes won 81-68 in Winfield and 89-74 in Salina.
KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
- The Coyotes remain in first place in the KCAC one game ahead of Friends and two in front of Tabor. KWU lost to Tabor 75-68 in overtime Saturday in Hillsboro. LaMyah Ricks had 19 points and Angel Lee 14. The Coyotes defeated York 84-80 last Wednesday in York, Neb.
- Lee scored 13, Catherine Bowman 12, Ricks 11, and Hampton Williams 10 in the first game against Bethel. The Coyotes shot 39 percent including 2 of 18 from 3-point range and had 18 turnovers but won the rebounding battle handily 42-28.
- Ricks is the leading scorer (12.2) followed by Lee (11.7) and Jill Stephens (10.2). Williams averages 9.6 and a team-best 8.2 rebounds. The Coyotes average 75 points and shoot 44 percent overall, 35 percent beyond the arc.
BETHEL AT A GLANCE
- The Threshers are 3-3 in their last six games and coming off a 79-78 overtime victory over Avila on Saturday in North Newton. They lost at home to Sterling 73-60 last Wednesday.
- Sophomore guard Kendall Locke had 18 points and eight rebounds against KWU in the first game and had 25 points and seven rebounds against Avila on Saturday. She leads the team in scoring (17.0) and rebounding (6.9). Senior guard Natalie Richards averages 15.0 points and sophomore forward McKinzie Madyson 12.3.
- Bethel averages 70.3 points and shoots 40 percent overall but just 27.6 percent from long range. Opponents are averaging 68.2 points and are committing 17.5 turnovers.
SOUTHWESTERN AT A GLANCE
- The Moundbuilders have lost five in a row, eight of nine and 16 of 18. They fell to Bethany 90-70 Saturday in Winfield and 82-62 to Oklahoma Wesleyan last Wednesday in Bartlesville, Okla., and 71-68 to Evangel on Tuesday.
- Senior Christy Wiebe leads the team in scoring (14.9) and rebounding (9.1). She had 21 points and rebounds Saturday against Bethany. Junior Macey Pond is next (11.4 points) and scored 17 against the Swedes. Â
- Southwestern averages 63 points and shoots 32 percent overall, 30 percent from long range. Rebounding is a problem as opponents are outrebounding the Moundbuilders by nearly 11 per game.
