WICHITA – Kansas Wesleyan Softball dropped a pair of games to the Friends University Falcons 8-0 and 15-5 on Thursday at Two Rivers Youth Complex.
The first game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Friends put five on the board, all with two outs.
The Falcons added two more in the bottom of the fourth to make it 7-0 and then closed out the game with a run in the bottom of the fifth.
The Coyotes struggled offensively and were without a hit until the top of the fifth when
Briannah Kutschkau singled.
Caitlyn Collier took the loss, allowing seven runs, five earned on seven hits while striking out four.
Alycyn Nash pitched two thirds of an inning, allowing one run on two hits.
In the second game, the Coyotes fell behind early 3-0 in the first inning, but mounted a comeback before Friends had a big fifth inning to close it out.
The Falcons had a 5-0 lead heading to the third when the Coyotes got on the board.
Deja Rubio walked, followed by a walk to
Josie Buhr.
Elli Han's ground out moved the runners up and set up
Brooklyn Lange's 2-run single to make it 5-2.
The Coyotes got within a run at 5-4 in the fourth.
Jenna Soule walked, followed by a fielder's choice by
Shiloh Johnson. Wesleyan then strung together three straight hits, the last by Han that drove in Rubio and Johnson.
Cadence Mallet's solo homer in the top of the fifth tied things up at 5-5.
Friends then had an offensive explosion in the bottom of the inning. The Falcons plated two runs, then an error by the Coyotes would extend the inning as Friends would score seven after what should have been the end of the inning to close the game out.
Han and Lange each drove in two runs for the Coyotes, while six players had one hit each.
Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday, heading to Ottawa to take on the Braves starting at 1 p.m.
