Game Recap: Men's Volleyball | | Sheresa Layton

Men's Volleyball plays well but falls to No. 3 Missouri Valley in four sets

Kansas Wesleyan University Mens Volleyball team battled the Vikings of Missouri Valley College in a close match that went to four total sets. KWU duked it out against the Heart Conference foe. MVC would win the match over KWU 3-1 with scores of 26-24, 25-21, 24-26, 25-13.

The first set was down to the wire. Both teams showed their fire power as KWU recorded 15 kills and MVC recorded 17. The Coyotes played one of their cleanest games of the season, only having two attack errors in the first game (to MVC's 5) on 32 attack attempts hitting .406.. Among those hitters for the Coyotes were Justin Burras with 14 kills, Jaron Lindsay with 12, and Ryan Wagner with 10 kills. Many of these kills coming crusty of Ethan Rickets who racked up 43 assists on the night. Despite the near perfect play the coyotes would loose set one in a close one of 26-24.

Set two saw the Coyotes trailing by two or three most of the stretch after a three point run by the Vikings when the KWU got down 6-3. After that MVC kept at least a two point lead over the Coyotes. KWU still played a fanatic set hitting .455 off of 22 attack attempts. KWU also racked up 4 blocks to MVCs 1; with Ryan Wagner, Ethan Ricketts, Jaron Lindsay, and Colin Lindo all helping the defensive cause. Coyotes would nonetheless, drop set two 25-21.

Set three was another thriller going all the way to the last point. The Coyotes kept fighting and out killed the Vikings in the forth set 16-9. This set it paid off for them, as they clutched a 26-24 win after a late kill by Justin Burras followed by another kill by Zayin Martinez. Making the score 2-1 for the match.

The fourth set was a near flip on in terms of kill production for the Coyotes. They were out killed by the Vikings 15-9. KWU after clawing for set three just had difficult time getting hits down. The Vikings would go on to win set four 25-13 and the match 3-1.

The Coyotes are now 7-14 overall and 3-11 in conference play.

KWU will continue Heart of America Conference play as they host the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats on Saturday at 1:00PM in Mabee Arena.
