LINDSBORG – Kansas Wesleyan Women's Tennis dropped its Kansas Conference quarterfinal match-up with the Oklahoma Wesleyan Eagles 4-0 on Thursday at Smoky Valley High School.
OKWU won the doubles point winning two of the three matches, but the Coyotes were leading in the third when the point was decided in the play to clinch format of the tournament.
Alivia Sherer and
Eliza Camp were leading Nikoleta Aleksic and Mary Cone 5-1 at the moment.
In the finished matches, Rocio Espinal and Jewel Henderson beat
McKinnley Evans and
Kristi Henderson 6-0; and Nancy and Madeline Henderson beat
Hayden Bellamy and
Danielle Slack 6-2.
As singles play went on, the teams were forced into a weather delay as rain showers moved through the area. Play was delayed approximately two hours while teams had to wait for the rain to stop and the courts to dry to become playable again.
After the delay, OKWU was able to get three wins by the Henderson triplets to close out the match. Jewel Henderson beat Evans 6-3, 6-3; Nancy Henderson beat Sherer 6-1, 6-1; and Madeline Henderson beat Slack 6-1, 6-3.
KWU was leading in two of the unfinished matches as Henderson won the first set 6-2 and was up 5-1 in the second over Aleksic; and Camp had won the first set 6-2 had just started the second set. Espinal was leading Bellamy for the Eagles up a set at 6-1, and was leading 4-3 in the second.
The loss concludes Wesleyan's season at 9-9 overall and 7-5 in the KCAC.
