NORTH NEWTON – Kansas Wesleyan Men's Cross Country finished third at the Muthama-Rogers Invitational hosted by Bethel College on Saturday.
Wesleyan was the top finished four-year school at the meet, finishing only behind Butler Community College and Colby Community College. Butler was ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA in the organization's preseason poll and Colby was ranked No. 19.
The Coyotes bested other NCAA Division II and NAIA institutions at the meet along with other junior colleges as well.
Jake Cruz again led the Coyote finishers in ninth with a time of 26:54.10 for the 8K loop course.

Mauricio Mendez was 75th in 30:40.22, Barka Bepeng, Jr. was 79th in 31:00.15,
Brodie Bradshaw was 89th in 31:34.64,
Jude Nelson was 92nd in 31:50.46,
Will Childers was 96th in 32:03.52,
Logan Topp was 97th in 32:15.28,
Luke Adams was 101st in 32:32.49 and Efrain Santibenez was 126th in 35:47.68.
There were a total of 17 teams at the meet, but only 12 carried enough runners to score as a team. Butler won the meet easily with 22 points, followed by Colby with 47. KWU was third with 75, then Northwestern Oklahoma State was fourth with 108 and Fort Hays State rounded out the Top 5 with 140.
Butler also had the first four individuals across the line led by champion Emmanuel Otim with a time of 25:33.76.
The Coyotes get a break until October 4 when they head to Cedar Rapids, Iowa for the Seminole Stampede.
