THE SERIES
- KWU defeated Sterling 71-65 Dec. 3 in Sterling in the first game this season and is 6-4 against the Warriors in the last 10 games. The Coyotes are 24-17 against Sterling since 2005.
- The Coyotes ended a three-game losing streak against Saint Mary with an 85-76 victory on Dec. 13 in Mabee Arena. The series stands at 20-20 since 2005.
KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
- The Coyotes lost to No. 14 Friends 105-84, Monday in Wichita in a game that was rescheduled from Saturday because of the winter storm. KWU had 17 turnovers that led to 24 Falcons points and Friends snagged 16 offensive rebounds that produced 27 points. Brandon Avedon flirted with a triple-double finishing with 18 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds.
- Matthew Garber scored 19 and Caiden Punt had 14 and 10 rebounds in a victory at Sterling earlier this year. KWU was 9-26 from 3-point range and won the rebounding battle 35-27. Punt led six Coyotes in double figures with 17 points in the first game against Saint Mary. KWU shot 52 percent and won the rebounding battle 41-25.
- Punt leads the Coyotes in scoring (17.1) and rebounding (7.2). Avedon is second in scoring (11.7) and averages 4.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists. KWU averages 76 points and allows 79 per game. The Coyotes are shooting 46 percent overall, 30 percent from the 3-point line and 73 percent from the foul line.
STERLING AT A GLANCE
- The Warriors haven't played since a 67-63 homecourt loss to McPherson on Jan. 21. They've lost their last six and nine of the last 10 – a 65-60 decision over Ottawa on Dec. 13 in Ottawa the long victory.
- Javion Reed scored 16 and Julian Smith 15 in the first game against KWU this season. The Warriors shot 37 percent including 3-15 from 3-point range including 0-8 in the first half. They scored 17 points off of 19 Coyote turnovers.
- Smith leads the team in scoring (16.6) and is second in rebounding (5.7). Ziri Blackwell is second on the scoring chart (10.9). Sterling averages 74 points and allows 75 per game. Three of the Warriors last four losses (to York, Bethany, McPherson) were by a total of 11 points.
SAINT MARY AT A GLANCE
- The Spires defeated Bethany 86-61 on Monday in Lindsborg. They had won their last four averaging 90.3 points in the process in advance of their contest against Friends on Wednesday in Leavenworth.
- Cam Edwards scored 20 points, Jordan Brown 17 and Kaeden Bonner 16 against KWU in December, but 19 turnovers led to 18 Coyotes points. The Spires shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and 39 percent in the second.
- Saint Mary averages 78 points and has four double figure scorers – Bonner (15.8), Brown (13.8), Edwards (13.2) and Terrius Walker (10.8). Bonner has 55 3-pointers and shoots 46 percent from beyond the arc. Opponents average 72 points and 15 turnovers.
