GOODWELL, Okla. – Kansas Wesleyan Softball picked up its first win of the season as the Coyotes defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State 6-2 on Friday at Jim Quimby Field.
The victory comes after OPSU won both games of a doubleheader on Thursday between the teams.
Wesleyan took an early lead in the top of the first inning as
Madison Geer singled and
Brooklyn Lange reached on an error to start the rally.
Keira Hammen then reached on a fielder's choice and an error that allowed the first run the score.
Kama Seminavage then drove in a run on a ground out.
OPSU got a run back in the bottom of the inning, but the Coyotes held the lead until the third when OPSU tied it.
The score remained tied until the fifth when the Coyotes scored twice as
Elli Han singled and then scored on Geer's double and
Deja Rubio walked with the bases loaded to bring in the second run of the inning making it 4-2 Coyotes.
The Coyotes added two more in the sixth as
Morgan Rasmussen led off the inning with a single and then scored on Geer's double. Seminavage then singled to bring in another run and make it 6-2.
Geer had three hits to lead the Coyotes and drove in two runs. Freshman
Addie Herrera made her collegiate debut in the circle, tossing a complete game, scattering eight hits and two runs over seven innings.
The Coyotes will be back in action next Saturday, February 21, in the home opener as KWU faces
