SHAWNEE, Kan. – Kansas Wesleyan Softball dropped a pair of contest to Central Methodist and Baker to wrap up play in the Top Gun Events Midwest College Classic on Saturday at Mid America Sports Complex.
The Coyotes lost to Central Methodist 12-6 in the first game.
KWU had an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning of the game as
Cadence Mallet doubled and later scored when
Kendell Wilcox singled. CMU tied it in the bottom of the first.
In the second the Coyotes regained the lead.
Grace Pierce led off the inning reaching on an error and then scored on
Brooklyn Lange's single. Mallet followed with a 2-run double to give the Coyotes a 4-1 lead.
CMU got two back in the bottom of the inning, and then tied it up in the bottom of the fourth.
Wesleyan regained the lead in the fifth as Mallet led off with a single and then scored later in the inning.
MacKenzie Vela then drove in
Madison Geer who singled earlier in the inning. Again the Eagles would tie in back up in the bottom of the inning.
The Eagles would score six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the 12-6 lead and held on for the win.
Mallet and Wilcox had three hits each for the Coyotes as KWU had 14 hits in the game.
Bella Allen suffered the loss in the circle, giving up the go-ahead runs in the sixth in relief of
Addie Herrera who was the starter, then re-entered the circle in the sixth.
The Coyotes then faced Baker University falling 5-0.
The Wildcats scored four first inning runs and added another in the second to cap the scoring.
Wesleyan's offense struggled in the game, limited to three hits, all singles, a walk and a hit batter.
Alli Mickelsen took the loss allowing five runs on six hits in two and a third innings,
Bella Allen held Baker to two hits and three strikeouts in three and two-thirds innings.
The Coyotes are back in action next weekend at the Branson Bash in Branson, Mo. The Coyotes play Briar Cliff and Culver-Stockton on Friday, then play Culver-Stockton again and Cottey College on Saturday.
