SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Kansas Wesleyan Softball faced the No. 17 ranked Evangel Valor on Saturday and despite hanging in the there with the nationally-ranked Valor, the Coyotes dropped both ends of the doubleheader 6-4 and 4-0.
The Coyotes tried to rally late against the Valor in the first game, but fell 6-4.
Wesleyan started out with a 1-0 lead after
Brooklyn Lange doubled and then scored on
Kendell Wilcox's sacrifice fly.
The Coyotes held the lead until the second when Evangel took advantage of a KWU error to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead.
Evangel added another in the third and another in the fourth.
In the sixth the Coyotes put a run on the board as
MacKenzie Vela,
Madison Geer and
Cadence Mallet all singled to load the bases and later in the inning
Grace Pierce walked to bring in the run.
Evangel took advantage of KWU errors in the sixth to score two more to lead 6-2.
Elli Han led off the KWU seventh with a single and
Keira Hammen homered to get the Coyotes within two, but KWU couldn't put another rally on the board.
Han, Vela and Geer all had two hits for the Coyotes.
Bella Allen went four innings allowing four runs in five hits, taking the loss.
Wesleyan's offense struggled in the second game only registering one hit, a single by Mallet in the third.
Evangel did all if its scoring in the first inning thanks in part to a KWU error to lead off the inning.
Alli Mickelsen took the loss in the circle allowing four unearned runs in an inning of work. Freshman
Addie Herrera went the rest of the way and scattered six hits over five innings, while striking out seven.
The Coyotes will be back in action on Tuesday, hosting York in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. at Salina South.
