Men’s Volleyball tripped up by Culver-Stockton in four sets in road finale

CANTON, Mo. – Kansas Wesleyan Men's Volleyball dropped the final road match of the season on Saturday in four sets to the Culver-Stockton Wildcats 26-24. 12-25, 19-25, 23-25 at Charles Field House.

The Coyotes jumped out to a 6-3 lead to start the first set and would fight off challenges by Culver every time they tried to rally. The Wildcats led 21-18 in the set and had set point at 24-21, but the Coyotes used a kill by Josh Condon to spark a 5-0 rally to win the set 26-24.

Culver raced out to a 5-1 lead to start the second set and the Coyotes could get no closer than three the rest of the way. The Wildcats pushed the lead out to 19-10 and led 19-12 before scoring the final six points of the set to win 25-12.

Culver scored the first five of the third set and extended the lead out to 14-7. The Coyotes got three points after to get within 14-10, but fell behind 19-12. Wesleyan then rolled off five straight points to get within two at 19-17, but Culver would score five of the last seven to take the set.

The fourth went back and forth to start with the Coyotes leading 6-5 on Kaleb Cui's ace, but the Wildcats would take the lead back at 12-11. KWU got two points to take a 13-12 lead but couldn't push into the lead after that as C-SC would take the lead and hold it despite KWU tying it several times. The Coyotes fell behind 24-21 but scored the next two to get within a point before Culver finished it off.

Cui had 17 kills and five service aces, and Williams added 16 for the Coyotes. Dallas Manaku had 33 assists. Josh Kiely had 11 digs.

The Coyotes will close the season with four straight home matches starting on Tuesday against Central Christian at Mabee Arena.
