Kansas Wesleyan Men's Tennis split its last two matches falling to Evangel 4-3 on Saturday in Springfield, Mo., then picking up a 4-3 win over Tabor on Monday in Hillsboro.
Against Evangel, the Coyotes dropped a 4-3 decision to the Valor.
In doubles, Evangel won the point by taking two of the three matches. KWU got one match win as
Gavin Chavez and
Benjamin Cechak beat Alberto Moya and Emiliano Arjona 6-3. Evangel's wins came as Gabriele Renella and Angel Gomez beat
Adam Hanson and
Jacob Phelps 7-6, and Gabriel Leal and Emilio Chavarria beat
Paul Jittawait and
Dawson O'Donnell 7-6.
In singles, the teams split the six matches. KWU got wins as O'Donnell beat Moya 6-2, 6-0; Jittawait beat Leal 6-1, 7-6; and
Adam Hanson beat Chavarria on a retirement in the second set. Evangel got its wins as Gomez beat
Alex Sherer 7-5, 6-7, 6-1; Renella beat Phelps 7-6, 6-1 and Arjona beat
Jack Hanson 6-2, 6-4.
On Monday in Hillsboro, the Coyotes ended a three-match losing streak beating Tabor 4-3.
The Coyotes would win the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. O'Donnell and Jittawait beat Bruno Cardoso and Peter Jost 6-2; and Chavez and Cechak beat Isaac Yourdon and Joao Franchi 6-3. Tabor got one win as Joao Sa and Rayane Sanhaji beat
Adam Hanson and Phelps 6-3.
The teams would split the six singles matches.
KWU got wins as Phelps beat Cardoso 6-7, 6-2, 6-4;
Adam Hanson beat Sa 6-3, 6-2; and Cechak beat Yourdon 6-3, 6-3. Tabor got wins as Sanhaji beat O'Donnell 6-0, 4-6, 7-6; Jost beat
Jack Hanson 6-3, 6-2; and Franchi beat Chavez 1-6, 6-4, 11-9.
The split of the matches puts the Coyotes at 5-7 overall and 2-4 in the KCAC. The Coyotes are scheduled to next take on Sterling on Wednesday in Salina.
