Kansas Wesleyan Developmental Softball battled hard in every game, but came up just short in every contest at the KCAC Developmental Tournament at Salina South High School Softball Fields on Monday.
Â
The tournament was played in a round robin format with Oklahoma Wesleyan, Friends and Bethany also playing in the tournament. Each team played three games.
Â
Bethany 10, KWU 2 – KWU fell behind as Bethany scored two runs in the first and three in the second inning to lead 5-0.
Â
KWU got two runs in the bottom of the third inning on a double by
Sydney Fuller.
Â
Bethany had a 2-run homer, a 2-run double and a RBI single in the fourth to take a 10-2 lead. The Swedes would then close things out in the fifth inning.
Â
OKWU 7, KWU 1 – KWU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by
Chloe Purvis that scored
Maya Nunn from third base on the throw.
Â
Unfortunately, that would be the only run for the host team Coyotes in the game.
Â
KWU held the 1-0 lead until the sixth inning when the Eagles scored two runs.
Â
Oklahoma Wesleyan would score five runs in the seventh inning to take a 7-1 lead.
Â
Friends 3, KWU 2 – Friends pushed out to a 3-0 lead in the last game of the tournament.
Â
KWU made a comeback at the end, scoring a run on a hit by
Rihanna Ramirez in the sixth inning.
Â
KWU got another run in the seventh when
Kiya Caltabiano grounded out to bring a run, but the Coyotes could not get another run on the board ultimately falling 3-2.
