Kansas Wesleyan Men's Tennis took Thursday's match with Sterling down to the wire but the Coyotes came up short in heartbreaking fashion 4-3 to the Warriors at Salina Tennis Alliance.
The loss ends Wesleyan's season with a 7-12 overall record and a 4-8 record in KCAC play.
Sterling won the doubles point by winning two of the three matches in tiebreaks.
KWU got its doubles win as
Jack Hanson and
Jacob Phelps beat I. Curtis-Kaduma and Pedro Felipoff 6-1.
Sterling got its wins as Fernando Vargas Sanchez and Kazuki Fukushima beat
Adam Hanson and
Paul Jittawait 7-6; and Adam King and Rubem Bogomoltz beat
Gavin Chavez and
Benjamin Cechak 7-6.
The teams split the singles matches 3-3.
KWU got wins as
Alex Sherer beat Felipoff 6-3, 4-6, 6-4; Phelps beat King on a retirement; and
Jack Hanson beat Cassidy Kelly 6-1, 6-0.
Sterling got wins as Vargas Sanchez beat Jittawait 4-6, 6-3, 6-4; Fukushima beat
Adam Hanson 6-4, 7-6; and Bogomoltz beat Chavez 6-2, 6-2.
