Kansas Wesleyan Softball finished the regular season on Wednesday with a sweep of the Hesston College Larks 9-3 and 4-0 at Salina South High School.
Â
The doubleheader was a good way for the Coyotes to wrap the regular season before next week's KCAC Tournament after Tuesday night's sweep of Tabor in the conference finale.
Â
In the first game, the Coyotes (22-19) zipped out to a 3-0 lead as
Brooklyn Lange led off with a walk and then scored when
Deja Rubio singled and a muffed throw by the pitcher allowed Lange to score on the play.
Â
Kendell Wilcox was hit by a pitch and
Madison Geer reached on an error to bring in the second run for the Coyotes.
Kama Seminavage then singled to bring in another run.
Â
Hesston (6-35) got two runs in the top of the third inning, and it took until the fourth for the Coyotes to plate another run.
Â
Rubio doubled, Wilcox singled and then
Cadence Mallet doubled to bring in a run.
Â
The Coyotes put five on the board in the fifth. Seminavage reached on an error to start the inning and pinch runner Graycen Partlow scored on a double by
Morgan Rasmussen. After a walk to Lange, Rubio doubled to bring in a run. Mallet was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in a run and Lange would score on a wild pitch. Partlow would then get an at bat and walked to bring in another run to make it 9-2.
Â
Hesston got one run in the seventh, but the Coyotes closed things out.
Â
Rubio had three hits and Mallet two for the Coyotes in the game.
Addie Herrera got the win, pitching five innings, the first two frames and then the final three to get the win, allowing one run on three hits and striking out six.
Adalynn Zeller pitched two innings in her first varsity action of the season.
Â
In the second game, the Coyotes put runs on the board in the second, third and sixth innings and got another outstanding pitching performance by
Alli Mickelsen for the 4-0 win.
Â
Wesleyan got a double by Geer in the second and then a RBI single by
Brooklyn Bonewits to score the run and put the Coyotes on the board.
Â
Wilcox reached on an error in the third and Lange was hit by a pitch setting up
Brooklynn Smith's 2-run double to put the Coyotes up 3-0.
Â
Madisyn Havenstein doubled to lead off the KWU sixth and then scored when
Becca Kennon stole second and an errant throw on a back-pick at third sailed into left field allowing Havenstein to score to make it 4-0.
Â
MacKenzie Vela had two hits for the Coyotes to lead the way and Smith drove in two runs.
Â
Mickelsen went the distance in a 5-hit shutout, striking out eight in the game.
Â
The Coyotes are locked in as the No. 6 seed in next week's KCAC tournament hosted by KWU at Salina South High School. KWU will await to learn their opponent after the final conference games are played this weekend around the conference.
