Kansas Wesleyan's
Shaw Lee tossed a complete game shutout of the McPherson Bulldogs on Wednesday night at Dean Evans Stadium, lifting the Coyotes to an 8-0 win over the Bulldogs.
Â
It was Lee's first complete game performance of the season as he scattered seven McPherson hits while striking out 10 against only one walk, throwing 116 pitches in the game.
Â
Wesleyan took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as
Niko Olson singled and
Carter Allen followed with a homer out to right center.
Â
The Coyotes added another run in the second inning as
Joe Finder led off the inning with a double and then scored on
Zac Goldenberg's single.
Â
Lee was cruising on the mound, having still faced the minimum through five innings despite giving up two hits to that point thanks in part to a first inning double play and a pickoff to end the fifth.
Â
Wesleyan left the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning, but got back on the board in the seventh.
Fernando Ruvalcaba led off the inning with a single,
Chris Finocchario walked and Finder doubled to bring in two runs in the inning. Goldenberg came through again later in the inning with a double to bring in another run.
Â
The Coyotes added two more in the eighth. Allen walked to start the inning, then
Tyler Nordyke reached on an error on a bunt that allowed Allen to score and Nordyke to end up at third. Ruvalcaba then ground out to bring in another run.
Â
Lee finished the ninth with two strikeouts to complete the shutout.
Â
Goldenberg had three of KWU's nine hits in the game while Finder had two.
Â
KWU heads to Sterling this weekend for one game on Friday and two on Saturday.
