Kansas Wesleyan Men's Soccer got its season started on Saturday hosting the Briar Cliff Chargers at JRI Hospitality Stadium and the Graves Family Sports Complex, but BCU would come away with the 2-0 win over the Coyotes.
The Coyotes got a stellar defensive performance from goalkeeper
David Oyebade who stopped several shots from Briar Cliff to keep the match scoreless until the final 16 minutes.
Briar Cliff came out on the offensive taking several early shots but could not find the goal.
Wesleyan's first shot was a try by
Juan Escobedo in the 42nd minute that was saved.
The Coyotes were able to put together a little more offensive output in the second half, just couldn't find the goal.
Briar Cliff was awarded a penalty kick in the 71st minute, but Oyebade made an incredible diving stop to keep the ball
The Coyotes had another good scoring try in the 80th minute by
Juan Manuel Lozada Leon, but could not get the ball across the line.
Wesleyan's last good try came in the 82nd by Lozada.
Briar Cliff's first goal came in the 74th by Ignacio Barrios and their second in the 83rd by Angjelos Arapi.
Lozada had three of KWU's six shots in the match. Oyebade had seven saves in goal.
The Coyotes are back in action next Saturday hosting Doane University at 7 p.m. at JRI Stadium.
