    Assistant Coach

Jonathan Freemyer joins the Kansas Wesleyan University baseball staff as the teams’ assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in August 2017. He spent the past three years as an assistant coach at NCAA Division II Northwestern Oklahoma State University under Sam Carel where he worked with outfielders and hitters. During his last year with the Rangers, he also was named recruiting coordinator where he developed and maintained recruiting contacts across the nation.

While at Northwestern, Freemyer coached three All-Conference players in Matt Benn (2015), Thomas Bess (2016) and B.A Castro (2017). The 2016 Rangers set the school record for the most conference wins in the Great American Conference (GAC) and the 2017 team achieved the first GAC sweep in school history.

Before coaching, Freemyer finished his baseball career at Northwestern in 2014, playing under Coach Bill Neale for three seasons. Freemyer led an impressive senior campaign that included Great American Conference Player of the Year and Third Team NABC All-American accolades. He signed a professional contract at the end of his senior season as an undrafted free agent and spent the summer in the Tampa Bay Rays organization.

The Kingwood, Texas native also was a four-year basketball standout from 2009-13, ending his career as Northwestern’s third all-time leading scorer and top-five all-time in steals and rebounds. In 2012-13 he became the first player in GAC history to earn all-conference honors in two different sports, taking home first team honors on the hardwood and second team status on the diamond.

Freemyer graduated with his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice in 2013 and his Master's in American Studies in 2016.

Freemyer resides in Salina with his wife, Jennifer, and their two dogs, Sarge and Spot.
