Coleman Houk

Originally from Lawrence, Kan., Coleman Houk has been a part of the Kansas Wesleyan golf program since 2015. He was a player under coaches Randy Bemiss, Howard Mahan, and Randy Syring, was then named an assistant under Randy Syring and has been the Head Coach of the Men since January 2020, and the Women since January 2022.

In 2022-23, KWU finished third in the KCAC stroke play championships held in Garden City in April. Ethan VIkander was the top finisher for the Coyotes with a third place finish, shooting a 7-under for the tournament. He led three Top 10 finishers for the Coyotes along with Landon Berquist and Trevor Watson. Freshman Jackson Malone was named as the KCAC Player of the Year and a first-team All-KCAC honoree. Trevor Watson was also named to the first-team and Landon Berquist was named to the second-team. Malone was also named as a NAIA All-American. Six student-athletes were named as KCAC Scholar-Athletes and five were named as Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

In 2021-2022, now in his third season at the helm, the Coyotes received their best ranking in school history on both the Men's and the Women's side at No. 10 and No. 23 respectively, in the nation. The Coyote men won the Salina Country Club shootout in September and finished second in the KCAC Match Play in the fall. The Coyotes finished third in the KCAC Championship, with three in the Top 10. Trevor Watson and Ethan VIkander were named to the All-KCAC teams. The team continued to excel academically as well, with seven Academic All-KCAC selections and seven Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

In 2020-2021, as Head Coach, not to be outdone by the previous season's success Houk saw the Coyotes capture six tournament victories led by Senior Troy Watson, the #2 ranked player in the nation with a 68.5 regular season average. This included a win over three top 10 teams at the Sydney Cox Invitational in Oklahoma City, a title at the inaugural KCAC Match Play Championship hosted at Mariah Hills in Dodge City, and ending with another KCAC Championship win in Garden City, making it back-to-back for KWU. Houk was named KCAC Coach of the Year for these accomplishments and four Coyotes, Troy Watson, Logan Vacca, Ethan Vikander, and Landon Berquist, received All-KCAC honors. At the NAIA invitational Troy Watson was named First Team All-American, the first in program history.

In 2018-2019, Houk led the Coyotes in his final season as a player to one the most successful years in program history that included five tournament victories, including an individual win over the number one player in the nation at the Mid-South hosted at Sand Creek Station in Newton. The regular season was capped off with a team and individual victory in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship hosted at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City. This gave the Coyotes a bid to the NAIA National Championship in Mesa, Arizona where the team finished a program best 13th out of 30. Houk graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Accounting and would then go on to complete his Master of Business Administration degree.

Houk continues to be an avid member of the golf community in Kansas. He has won over 20 tournaments since graduating from KWU at the club, city, and state level, has competed to much success in the Kansas State Amateur Championship, holds multiple tournament and course scoring records, and maintains a +4 handicap.
