Dustin Sahlmann has been the Men's Volleyball coach at Kansas Wesleyan since March 2022.Â
In 2025, KWU moved to the Heart of America Conference in men's volleyball, where they faced one of the toughest schedules in the country as the Heart is considered the top NAIA Men's Volleyball conference in the country. KWU finished 8-18 overall and 4-15 in the Heart in the first season in the league. Ryan Wagner was named Second Team All-Heart for his excellent season, leading the league in blocks per set at 1.23 in conference play and ranked fourth in the NAIA. KWU also had three Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.Â
In 2024, Sahlmann led the Coyotes to their first winning season in just the third year of the existence of the program. The Coyotes went 14-13 overall and posted a 4-6 record in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, in KWU's final season in the GPAC for men's volleyball. KWU earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament and hosted and won its first postseason game in program history knocking off Ottawa in the quarterfinal round. Sahlmann was named as the GPAC Co-Coach of the Year as KWU had the highest number of All-KCAC selections in school history with six led by first-team pick Zayin Martinez KWU had two Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the highest single season total in program history.Â
2023 was the first season for Dustin Sahlmann leading the Coyote Men's Volleyball program in just its second year of existence. Sahlmann led the Coyotes to a 11-19 record overall and a 4-6 mark in the KCAC. He led the program to a 9-win improvement over the inaugural season. The Coyotes picked up KCAC wins over Ottawa, Central Christian (twice) and Morningside in GPAC play, doubling the conference wins from 2022. Justin Burras and Viet Nguyen were named Second Team All-GPACÂ and Jeremy Lapeze and Kahlib Lawrence were named Honorable Mentions. Nguyen was named as a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete.Â

Sahlmann arrived at Kansas Wesleyan after spending two seasons at Lyon College in Batesville, Ark. leading the women's program for the Scots. After leading Lyon to an 8-14 finish in his first season, the Scots posted a 12-18 record in 2021. He coached a total of seven All-AMC student-athletes in his two seasons.
Before Lyon, Sahlmann spent four seasons at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. During his time at UAPB, the Lady Lions won more conference matches in three years than any other coach in school history (26). Sahlmann helped raise the team grade-point average from a 3.0 to a 3.775 during his time at UAPB.
Before Arkansas Pine Bluff, Sahlmann served as an assistant coach at Louisiana Tech in 2014, and served as an assistant at the University of New Orleans for the 2013 season and served as interim head coach in spring 2014 at UNO.
Sahlmann earned his first head coaching position at the collegiate level in 2011 at Philander Smith College.
Sahlmann also spent time as the head volleyball coach of the Little Rock Juniors and at Pulaski Academy High School after beginning his coaching career as a student assistant at the University of Arkansas in 1994.
Sahlmann obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Phoenix in 2006.
