Coleman Houk

Originally from Lawrence, Kan., Coleman Houk has been a part of the Kansas Wesleyan golf program since 2015. He was a player under coaches Randy Bemiss, Howard Mahan, and Randy Syring, was then named an assistant under Randy Syring and has been the Head Coach of the Men since January 2020, and the Women since January 2022.

In 2023, Houk led the Coyote women's golf program to a second place finish in the KCAC, and had a second place finisher in the tournament in Aidan Richmond who finished with a 232 in the weather-shortened 27-hole event. KWU placed three others in the Top 15 of the championships. Three were named to the All-KCAC women's golf teams led by first team picks Richmond and Abby Donovan and second-team pick Hannah Hart. In the fall, the Coyotes won their third straight KCAC Match Play championship, beating Bethany in the final 3-2 as Abby Donovan rallied in the final three holes to pick up the win in her match to clinch the match for the Coyotes. KWU also had a win at the Evangel Fall tournament and a second place finish at the Central Plains Invitational. KWU had five KCAC Scholar-Athletes and two Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

In 2018-2019, Houk led the Coyotes in his final season as a player to one the most successful years in program history that included five tournament victories, including an individual win over the number one player in the nation at the Mid-South hosted at Sand Creek Station in Newton, KS. The regular season was capped off with a team and individual victory in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship hosted at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course in Garden City, KS. This gave the Coyotes a bid to the NAIA National Championship in Mesa, Ariz., where the team finished a program best 13th out of 30. Houk graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Accounting and would then go on to complete his Master of Business Administration degree.

In 2021-2022, the Coyotes received their best ranking in school history on both the Men's and the Women's side at #10 and #23 respectively, in the nation. The Fall showed continued success as the Men picked up another tournament victory, while the Women picked up a staggering three wins. Both teams are looking to retain the KCAC Championship this Spring.

Houk continues to be an avid member of the golf community in Kansas. He has won over 20 tournaments since graduating from KWU at the club, city, and state level, has competed to much success in the Kansas State Amateur Championship, holds multiple tournament and course scoring records, and maintains a +4 handicap.
