Kansas Wesleyan Women's Soccer dropped a thrilling match with No. 19 ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday at JRI Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
The Eagles came into Salina leading the KCAC, but the Coyotes gave them a challenge the entire match.
The first nine minutes of the match saw the teams getting a feel for their opponent and their tactics for the match.
In the ninth minute, Oklahoma Wesleyan netted the only goal of the match. Leading scorer Tania Mocholi scored her 23
rd goal of the season sliding one in from in front of the goal after passes from Linn Joelsson and Mikayla VanBlaricom gave her the ball in a position to score.
The Coyotes had chances to find the equalizer in the first half on shots by
Maleia Jackson and
Leoni Enzlmuller but could not find the net.
KWU keeper
Allison Blumenthal did a great job of keeping the Eagles off the board again making nine saves in the match including several acrobatic plays to keep the ball out of the net.
The Coyotes were limited on second half chances with just two, both by
Grace Conner.
Blumenthal continued to defend her net well as the Eagles tried 13 second half shots, with Blumenthal grabbing six saves in the second half.
The Coyotes will be back in action on Wednesday, hosting Bethel College at 5 p.m. at JRI Stadium.
