Coyotes host Friends on Wednesday, Evangel on Saturday to open KCAC schedule

Kansas Wesleyan Men's Basketball will open the KCAC portion of its schedule this week with a pair of home games. The Coyotes will host Friends on Wednesday, and welcome KCAC newcomer Evangel on Saturday. Both games will be inside Mabee Arena.

THE SERIES  
  • The Coyotes have won three straight and seven of eight against Friends. Last season they won 82-78 November 22 in Mabee Arena and 95-64 January 23 in Wichita. Friends has a 23-17 lead in the series since 2006. 
  • Saturday's game will be the Coyotes' first against Evangel. 

KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE 
  • The Coyotes split two games in the Bethel Classic last weekend in North Newton. They defeated William Woods 81-79 Friday and lost to Peru State 84-79 Saturday. They led William Woods 44-36 at halftime and held off the Owls' rally. Five Coyotes scored in double figures led by Alex Littlejohn's 21 points; he also had 13 rebounds. Cory Kaplan added 16 points. KWU trailed Peru State by 18 with 14 minutes left, got within three twice but couldn't get any closer. Jun Murdock scored 30 and Thurbil Bile 17 for the Coyotes.  
  • Murdock is the top scorer at 19.5 per game followed by Littlejohn at 13.7. He also is averaging 9.8 rebounds. Bile averages 10.5 points and 4.3 rebounds. 
  • The Coyotes are averaging 79 points and shooting 47.8 percent from the field, 33 percent from beyond the 3-point arc and 76.6 percent from the free throw line. Opponents are averaging 78 points. 

FRIENDS AT A GLANCE 
  • The Falcons, who are led by first-year coach Phil McClintock, lost their opener at Central Methodist 88-73, defeated Calvary 119-56 in Wichita and lost at Oklahoma City 83-68 Saturday. McClintock was an assistant coach at Ottawa before going to Friends during the offseason. 
  • Drew Patterson leads a balanced offense with an 11.2 scoring average followed by Al Emerallahu (10.7). Tim Barberi is the leading rebounder (6.7). 
  • The Falcons average 86.7 points but allow 75.7 and are committing 14 turnovers per game. 

EVANGEL AT A GLANCE 
  • The Valor opened the season with losses to William Woods 86-76 and Oklahoma Science and Arts 90-84 before defeating John Brown 83-73 last Friday. The game against Tabor on Wednesday will be Evangel's first as a member of the Kansas Conference. 
  • Evangel earned a berth in the NAIA national tournament last season. The Valor defeated Iowa Wesleyan before losing to Indiana Tech. 
  • Josh Pritchett is the top scorer at 15.7 points followed by Jace Coffie (13.0), Garret Davault (12.0) and Manrique Alvarado (10.3). The Valor average 81 points and are shooting 48.8 percent from the field. Opponents are scoring 83 points per game.
