Women’s Volleyball falls to No. 23 ranked McPherson in four sets

McPHERSON – Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball headed to the Sport Center at McPherson College on Wednesday to take on the No. 23 ranked Bulldogs. McPherson would come away with a 3-1 win in the match – 25-19, 25-20, 19-25, 25-18.
 
KWU led the first set 7-3 but a 9-2 run by the Bulldogs made it 12-9 McPherson forcing a KWU timeout. After the break, McPherson rolled off three more points to make it 15-9. The Coyotes got back within three at 18-15 on a kill by Rylee Serpan, but four straight by McPherson made it 22-15 and the Bulldogs would finish off the set for the win.
 
In the second set, McPherson jumped out to the early lead 5-1, and the Bulldogs led 11-7 before KWU got seven straight points to take a 14-11 lead. The Coyotes led 16-14 when McPherson scored seven of the next eight to take a 21-17 lead. The Coyotes got closer than three the rest of the set.
 
Wesleyan jumped out to a 5-0 lead to start the third set and extended the lead to 7-1 on a kill by Gianna Adriaanse. The Coyotes led 10-3 and again 15-8 when McPherson cut the difference to four at 15-11. KWU led 19-13 when McPherson scored three more to get within three but a kill by Kyla Moore got the Coyotes going again. The teams traded points back and forth until the Coyotes got the last two of the set for the 25-19 win.
 
McPherson took an 8-5 lead in the fourth set, but the Coyotes came back with four straight points to take a 9-8 lead. McPherson answered right back with four of its own to take a 12-9 lead. It was 15-13 McPherson when the Bulldogs would score seven of the next nine to take a 22-15 lead. The bulldogs had match point at 24-16 before the Coyotes scored two points, but McPherson closed it with a kill to take the match.
 
Rylee Serpan led the Coyotes with 16 kills, while Kylee Harris had 13 and Gianna Adriaanse had 11. Josie Deckinger had 40 assists. Kate Bebout and Harris had four block assists each, and Kyle Moore had three. Tristyn Hedman had 10 digs for the Coyotes.
 
KWU has one more road match remaining on the nearly month-long road trip on Saturday at Ottawa. The Coyotes then host Tabor inside Mabee Arena next Wednesday.
