SALINA, Kan. — Kansas Wesleyan University's developmental fall teams continue to compete across the fields and courts this season as they face familiar conference teams
Men's Soccer
The Kansas Wesleyan men's developmental soccer team opened the week with a commanding 4–2 win over Ft. Riley. Matias Muniz led the scoring with two goals, while Jose Caballero and Kenneth Luanglatbandith each added one. Muniz stood out as a consistent attacking threat in a well-rounded team performance. The team then faced Sterling and fell 2–1, with captain Kayden McVicker scoring the lone goal. Caballero played the full 90 minutes and impressed as a midfield distributor. Against Garden City Community College, KWU endured a tough loss to a top junior college program. The match was largely defensive, with Luanglatbandith and Noah Weichbrodt anchoring the back line. KWU struggled to generate offensive chances while absorbing pressure for the full match.
Kansas Wesleyan takes on Allen County Community College at JRI stadium on Sunday October 12th at 6:00 PM.
Women's Soccer
The women's developmental soccer team continued to dominate possession and create scoring opportunities. In a 1–1 draw against MNU, Sofia Velasco netted the equalizer off an assist from Avery Crabtree. KWU fired 20 shots but couldn't convert more despite controlling the game. That changed against Evangel, where KWU again tallied 20 shots and secured a 2–0 win. Kamila Ojeda opened the scoring with help from Marlee Walsh, and Mia Ramirez added a second after a clever assist from Ameera Al-Maksosi, who was set up by Walsh's ball recovery. Goalkeeper Lauren Schwien earned her third clean sheet of the season, continuing her strong form.
The Coyotes travel to Oklahoma Wesleyan to face the Eagles at 4:00PM on October 9th.
Women's Volleyball – Gold Team
KWU's women's volleyball Gold team went 2–1 on the week, highlighted by a historic 3–1 victory over Cloud County Community College—their first ever win against the program. The team posted strong stats, including 12 aces and an average of 17 digs per set. Freshman hitter Campbell Bohling led with a .273 hitting percentage and 10 kills, while sophomore libero Malia Smith recorded 27 digs and a passing average of 2.4. Sophomore setter Olivia Donadio added 22 assists and 6 digs. At the Hutch Tri on the 26th, KWU split matches, defeating Southwestern in straight sets with a .243 hitting percentage, 7 aces, and 9 blocks. Key performances came from freshman Delaney Bond with a .286 hitting percentage and 5 digs, junior middle Jenna Hayhurst with a .444 hitting percentage and 5 blocks, and Donadio again with 21 assists and 3 aces.
On Friday October 10th the Ottawa Braves will travel to Mabee Arena to play the Coyotes at 5:15PM
Women's Volleyball – Purple Team
The women's Purple volleyball team had a perfect week, going 2–0. On Monday, they swept Bethany in dominant fashion, with strong contributions across the roster. On Friday, they defeated McPherson 3–1 with set scores of 25–15, 23–25, 25–26, and 25–16. Sophomore hitter Shelby Davidson led the attack with 11 kills and 16 digs, while freshman setter Nicole Magouirk delivered 30 assists and 12 digs in a standout performance.
On Wednesday October 29th KWU will head south to face McPherson College at 5:00PM
Football
KWU football capped off the week with a commanding 45–6 victory over Bethany College. Coyote kicker Ty Butler remained perfect with six for six on PATs and added a field goal. On defense, Bryce Phillips had a standout game with an interception, fumble recovery, and multiple tackles. Ashton Tanksley and Gabriel Mingua each added interceptions. Offensively, quarterback Landon Putman threw two touchdown passes to Ronald Hamilton and Deegan Davies, while Ryker Searle connected with Noah Hartwell for another score. Running backs Aiden Abraham and Robert Muhammad each added rushing touchdowns to seal the dominant win.
To finish out their season the Coyotes will face Sterling College on October 27th in Sterling Kansas at 5:00PM.
