Men's Basketball takes on No. 21 ranked Friends on Saturday in Mabee Arena

The Coyotes return home for a Kansas Conference game against 21st-ranked Friends — their first home contest since Nov. 15.

THE SERIES 
The Coyotes lost twice to the Falcons last season after winning 10 of the previous 11 games. KWU fell 88-65 in Wichita and 82-80 in Mabee Arena last season. Friends has a 25-19 lead in the series since 2006.


KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
  • The Coyotes defeated Sterling 71-65, Wednesday in Sterling. They led 31-25 at halftime before the Warriors got within 43-42 with 13:50 left in the game. KWU answered with a 9-0 run and was in control the rest of the game.
  • It was a coming out party for guard Matthew Garber who scored 19 points, 14 in the second half. A transfer from Cloud County, Garber was 5 of 10 from 3-point range, four of the makes in the second half. Caiden Punt had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Evens Appolon and Brandon Avelon scored 12 each. KWU had 19 turnovers but won the rebounding battle 35-27.
  • Appolon is averaging 10.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and is shooting 72.2 percent from the field (13 of 18) in the last three games – all on the road. He was 4 of 6 shooting, 4 of 4 at the free throw line, grabbed five rebounds and blocked two shots against Sterling.


FRIENDS AT A GLANCE
  • The Falcons defeated 17th-ranked Bethel 70-65 Wednesday in Wichita. Collin Maclin's tip-in with 4.6 seconds left provided the winning points. Bethel led 40-37 at halftime. Friends has won two straight and six of seven – the loss to Oklahoma Wesleyan 83-77 Nov. 19 in Wichita.
  • Cahlese Lee is the leading scorer (15.8) followed by Maclin (13.8) and Randy Woolf Jr. (13.0). Ringo Deng, a 6-9 center, is the top rebounder at 6.5 rebounds. All four are seniors.
  • Friends averages 85 points and collectively shoot 48 percent, 39 percent from 3-point range and commits 10.5 turnovers per contest. Opponents average 74 points and 15 turnovers.

NEXT UP
KWU heads to Nebraska for a game against York at 6 p.m. next Wednesday then takes on Saint Mary at 5 p.m. Dec. 13 in Mabee Arena.
