Men's Basketball heads to York on Wednesday, hosts Saint Mary on Saturday

The Coyotes travel to Nebraska midweek then return home this weekend for their last two Kansas Conference games before Christmas.

THE SERIES 
  • KWU and York split their two games last season, the Coyotes winning 100-61 in Salina and losing 60-57 in York. Wesleyan won the previous nine games before the loss. York has won 13 of the 25 games in the series since 2009.
  • The Spires have won three straight after KWU won three in a row and nine of 10. Saint Mary won 80-67 in Leavenworth and 77-76 in Salina last season and has a 20-19 lead in the series since 2009.
 

KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE
  • The Coyotes lost to Friends 71-67 in a hard-fought game Saturday inside Mabee Arena. They led 67-66 after an Evens Appolon field goal with 1:29 left but the Falcons scored the final five points. The Coyotes had 45-35 lead with 15:10 left after trailing 32-31 at halftime.
  • Appolon led the way with 17 points on 8 of 11 shooting and had six rebounds and three blocks. He's averaging 12.3 points while shooting 72.4 percent (21 of 29) in the last four contests. Caiden Punt and Aiden Leckband scored 12 points apiece against Friends – Leckband playing in his second game of the season after an injury during preseason camp. Punt also had seven rebounds and three assists.
  • A year ago, Appolon had 10 points and seven blocks in the first game against York; 10 points and 10 rebounds in the second; and 10 points and six rebounds in the first game against Saint Mary.
 

YORK AT A GLANCE
  • The Panthers have won their last two games after dropping four in a row. They defeated Tabor 68-67 on Devin Carroll's 3-pointer with one second left Saturday in Hillsboro. They erased a five-point deficit in the final 32 seconds.
  • Senior guards Jadin Johnson and Dave Dalge are the top scorers – Johnson 16.9 points and Dalge 10.4. Johnson has scored in double figures in nine of 11 games including a season-high 34-point effort against Briar Cliff on Nov. 11.
  • York averages 72 points and allows 80. The Panthers shoot 41 percent overall, 34 percent from 3-point range, but have a minus-4.2 rebound deficit per game.


SAINT MARY AT A GLANCE
  • The Spires have lost their last three games, the most recent 103-92, at McPherson on Saturday. The other setbacks were at home against Southwestern 68-64 and Evangel 63-62.
  • Kaeden Bonner is the leading scorer (15.2) followed by Cam Edwards (14.0) and Jordan Brown (13.8). Bonner is a superb outside shooter as evidenced by his 49.2 percentage (30 of 61) from 3-point range. Freshman forward Tanaka Mundoringisa made his season debut against McPherson and had 13 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists.
  • Saint Mary scores 75 points per game and allows 72. The Spires shoot 32 percent from long range, 42 percent overall and 75 percent from the free throw line.
